things that find us
sometimes i think we spend too much time looking for things.
looking for something interesting to read, something beautiful to see, somewhere new to go, someone who might change our lives. we keep searching, as if inspiration or meaning is always somewhere else, waiting to be found.
but maybe some things aren't meant to be found, they're meant to be noticed.
being open enough to recognize something when it finds you feels different from searching for it. it's paying attention to the things that happen without planning them. a conversation you didn't expect to have. the smell of rain on a street you know well. a film you watch without expecting much from it. a house you pass every day and suddenly notice for the first time. a color combination someone is wearing. a place you almost didn't visit. a thought that comes to you while you're doing something completely ordinary. the light coming through a window at exactly the right moment.
most of these things don't announce themselves. they don't tell you that they are important. they simply appear.
and we just need to be open enough to recognize inspiration when it finds us.
