the knot of unfinishedness

our brain is constantly trying to finish the things we leave unfinished.

unfinished work, broken appliances, unresolved feelings, conversations we never had, things we keep putting off because we don’t know what to do with them.

they pile up. one by one. until, at some point, they turn into a knot.

i realized this during the times when i started doing those “empty your mind onto paper” exercises. there are things that don’t really show themselves until you write them down. things that are somewhere in the back of your mind, taking up space without you even noticing.

you write down everything that comes to mind. then you wait for a while and keep writing. and when you continue doing this for some time, you realize there is so much you keep inside. you realize how even the smallest things can cause you anxiety, and how much space they take up in your mind.

writing really helps me untangle these thought knots.

and when you start dealing with some of them, you either finish the things that have been left unfinished or realize that some of them aren’t worth stressing about after all. you organize the rest, put things into perspective, and somehow, you make space in your mind for the things you weren’t able to focus on before.

this works like magic for me.
