my ongoing digital cleanup
i had previously cluttered my digital environment. i used to have multiple instagram accounts, a website i kept trying to optimize to fit my needs but never really could, countless photos and files, and so many unnecessary subscriptions and platforms taking up mental space.
over time, i decluttered all of it. i downsized my external drives, organized my files in a better way, and got rid of countless bookmarked pages i never returned to. i deleted the extra instagram accounts and eventually deactivated my main one too. i deleted facebook, unsubscribed from nearly everything, removed my websites, and even stopped taking photos.
i still love writing, and i value being able to reach information and people from all around the world through the internet. i want to keep that part. but at the same time, i want to continue simplifying things. by the end of the year, i want everything to feel simple, neat, and essential.
so, what's left?
honestly, not much but when you start looking closely, things always appear and pile up again. digital clutter has a way of quietly rebuilding itself. i still need to go through these properly once again (and maybe this is something that needs to happen every year):
- subscriptions
- translation files
- external drives
- email archives
- miscellaneous files
- apps and programs (both on my phone and pc)
- bookmarks
- notes
the list ends there, but each item takes time to sort through, which is why i set the deadline as the end of the year. if i finish earlier, even better.
i still feel like i’m forgetting something, though. maybe that’s just the nature of digital life, layers of things sitting in the background of our minds, waiting to resurface the moment we think we’ve finally cleared everything out.
